Fake or Fact? A Public Forum on False Information


LWV-CC hosted a free public forum about media literacy and how to identify misinformation and disinformation on September 30, 2024. Our presenter was Dr. Lauren Ratliff Santoro, Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Texas at Dallas. Homelessness and Affordable Housing in Collin County


LWV-CC hosted a public forum about 'Homelessness and Affordable Housing in Collin County' on April 2, 2024. The topics included the challenges communities face when dealing with homelessness and affordable housing, as well as the steps being taken by local entities to provide solutions to this crisis. Environmental Justice


LWV-CC hosted a free public forum about Environmental Justice on August 22, 2023, at the Plano Environmental Education Center. Local experts spoke about environmental justice, including what it means and how we achieve it through education, activism, and transforming the way we think about our rights to a healthy environment. The guest speakers were Evelyn Mayo, Chair of the Board of Downwinders at Risk; Misti O’Quinn, community organizer and educator with a focus on environmental justice, public health and quality of life; Rita Beving, Lobbyist on environmental issues; and David Griggs, Lone Star Chapter of the Sierra Club. Payday and Auto Title Lending Forum


LWV-CC hosted a public forum about Payday and Auto Title Lending on January 18, 2024. Our panel of experts educated attendees about these types of loans and the efforts to curb predatory practices. View the meeting slides and the speaker bios. Watch the video (56:37).
